Introduction:
You might have been
studying physics for a while in your college or high school but thought that
the physics course was just not interesting enough to read. You might have
found a great difficulty in concentrating as the course is not of your
interest. If the case is so then have a look at my top 10 list of most
interesting topics in high school physics course.
10. Bridges and meters:
While you were going
through your course you might have seen topics about Wheatstone bridge,
Potentiometer, P.O Box, Meter-Bridge etc. At first glimpse you might think that
the topics are just not easy enough but just try to go through the topic once
and you will surely find something to look forward to. This topic is about
electrical circuits and is all about connection and all. If you are a
DIY hobbyist then surely this topics is something for you.
9. de-Broglie theory and Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle:
Light is a wave, so is
moving electrons, said de-Broglie. This theory is about matter waves. It talks
about the wave nature of quantum particles. So next time you hear about waves
just don't think its light. And we all know there is no certainty in
anything but this uncertainty is about physical quantities and I don't want to
spoil your fun so go read yourself. Don't blame me if you think that this one
is not interesting.
8. Waves in pipes and strings:
Have you ever
wandered, why a pen cap whistles when we blow air at the top? Or have you ever wondered
how a guitar string produces that melody? I always wandered about these
topics and you know what, I more or less found my answers in this chapter. This
topic is totally about how the wave’s passes in stretched strings and
pipes and talks about harmonics and beats produced when they travel.
7. Radio Carbon dating:
You might have heard
about guessing a fossil's age just by doing some fancy things. This is
what they do, "Radio Carbon dating". You can learn about how to
calculate the age of something by studying radio carbon numbers. It's not that
you will learn every chemicals used and all but you will know how actually the
mathematics is done and what is the theory behind it. So next time if you
want to know someone’s age just carry out radio carbon dating. ;) . Just
kidding.
6. Polarization:
Imagine it's sunny
outside and you have to go looking for something. Such a pain for eyes without
a sun glass. But how does a sun glass save your eyes from such pain? Want to
know the answer? Go turn the pages of your books to this topic and you
will definitely find the answer. You will know what a sun glass do to
make your eyes job easy.
5. Photoelectric Effect:
Save earth, save
energy! You might be seeing posts like use of solar energy will save earth but
do you how they do it. How do they produce electricity from just sunlight? The
answer is by using photoelectric effect. They use this phenomenon to convert
solar energy to electrical energy and are one of the most revolutionary discoveries
in the history.
4. Logic Gates:
These gates don't let
you in but will surely amaze you. If you are a tech-fan and want to know
computer's logic then you will surely love this one. It talks
about electronic circuits called logic gate that are used to make
electronic circuits. You will see Boolean algebra and also how these things
derive logic like we do.
3. Superconductor:
A wire in which current flow eternally, this is
called superconductor. This is the hot topic of research
in modern day science. Superconductors are also the super-magnets.
These superconductor won't let any magnetic lines to pass through it so are
trapped inside a magnetic field.
2. Einstein’s Mass-Energy relation:
The
most famous equation on earth. The great Einstein derived an equation that
change the structure of physics forever and was known as the Einstein’s
Mass-Energy relation. This topic talks about the meaning of the relation E=mc2.
If you love Einstein’s quotes or works then have a look, it will surely change
your concept of universe, mass, energy and if you dig deeper in relativity then
it will change your concept of almost everything.
1. Cosmology:
The most fascinating and interesting topic for almost everyone
is the great universe. As the name suggest this topic is about the great
cosmos. You will surely love this one because it is one of the most mysterious
and incomplete topic of physics. You will get to read about the Big-Bang theory
i.e. how the universe was formed. You will read how we know the universe is
expanding. This topic also talks about one of the greatest unsolved mystery
i.e. Dark Matter. Also if you go deeper you will read about the Black hole and
stars. So have a look.
Conclusion:
So
after taking a closer look you will see that science or to be exact physics is
not as boring as you think it was. Now go take a look at those topics and you
will surely find something of your interest. Personally my favorite is cosmology,
polarization, photoelectric effect and the great “E=mc2” equation.
