Introduction:
Nowadays everyone
use computers as a data bank and when there is bank it needs a layer of
protection. Placing a password is but nowadays there are a lot of software's
out there which can easily crack you password in second. So you need an extra
layer of protection alongside of passwords.
Also computer are
used for different propose that are secrets that need to be hidden from family
and/or friend. Hiding a file into directories isn't a solution to the problem
so you need a more concrete way to do so.
So today guys I
am going to show you some simple steps work to hide anything from anyone inside
any image file along with password encryption. This technique is called
steganography and is really used in real life secret exchange and data
communication.
Okay!
Prerequisites:
- An image files
to use as a mask (THIS WILL BE THE DECOY).
- Anything to
hide.
Steps:
1. Go to Camouflage
download site here and download the software
2. Now run
the software ignoring any message or anything that is not the installer. You
will see something like below. Click "unzip" and "OK"
3. The installer will start and just complete the installation by clicking "next"s and "Ok"s.
Now you are done with the installation. So let's jump to hiding a file.
Here I will be hiding an image "wb.jpg" inside another image "emm.jpg" The final output will be named "final.jpg".
Steps:
1. Now if your installation was successful, which is 100% sure to happen, you will be seeing an option "Camouflage" every time you right click and item.
2. So right click the item you want to hide and select "Camouflage."
3. After you click the option it will promote you to a dialogue box and then click next.
4. Next step will be choosing the file to use as the mask. Browse the file to be used and click next.
5. Now it will show you the dialogue box asking to browse the location for your final output. Note that; if you rename your image here don't forget to put the ".jpg" extension in the output name as it is supposed to be an image. And if you want your final file to be something that cannot be opened at all, just remove the extension and your file won't open.
6. Now click next, add a password and you are done.
Finally when you open your final output you will see the image that we use to hide opens and everything seems to be fine.
Now we are done hiding so lets learn to get our camouflaged files back.
Steps:
1. Right click the masked image file and click "Uncamouflage". You will see a dialogue box asking your pre-defined password. Enter your password and click next.
2. As soon as you click next you will see you camouflaged file. You can run the file directly from the box or you can extract your file to your desired location.
Now you know how to install, hide and unhide your secret info. If you surf around you will find many different other steganography tools out there in the market. Some are CUI software, some are just overwhelming and some are just disgusting. This one is my personal favorite so I suggest you guys to use this for simple use but if you guys want to be a professional stegnographer than you need to find something else however for home user this is the best tool.
